HBOT (Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) is a medical treatment that exposes a person to increased atmospheric pressure from 1.1 to 1.5 atmospheres, which can also be expressed as 3 to 6 pounds per square inch. The increase in pressure allows more oxygen to reach the cells of the body, resulting in many healing and therapeutic benefits.

How Does Mild Hyperbaric Therapy Work?

Hyperoxygenation – By increasing the oxygen dissolved in the plasma (the liquid portion of the blood), the lymphatic fluid, and the cerebrospinal fluid, HBOT increases the oxygen available to damaged tissues, stimulating healing.

Neovascularization – HBOT stimulates blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) and collagen (connective tissue) formation in areas that were previously resistant due to lack of oxygen.

Hyperoxia enhanced antimicrobial activity – HBOT reduces or eliminates the effects of toxic substances, bacteria, viruses, and yeast by increasing the tissue oxygen levels.

Hyperoxia enhanced immune response – HBOT activates the white blood cells to fight infection, promoting resistance to infection, as well as wound healing. HBOT also helps to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.

From Wikipedia:
In chemistry, Henry's law is a gas law that states that the amount of dissolved gas is proportional to its partial pressure in the gas phase. The proportionality factor is called the Henry's law constant. It was formulated by the English chemist William Henry, who studied the topic in the early 19th century. In his publication about the quantity of gases absorbed by water,[1] he described the results of his experiments:
..."water takes up, of gas condensed by one, two, or more additional atmospheres, a quantity which, ordinarily compressed, would be equal to twice, thrice, &c. the volume absorbed under the common pressure of the atmosphere."
An example where Henry's law is at play is in the depth-dependent dissolution of oxygen and nitrogen in the blood of underwater divers that changes during decompression, leading to decompression sickness. An everyday example is given by one's experience with carbonated soft drinks, which contain dissolved carbon dioxide.  Before opening, the gas above the drink in its container is almost pure carbon dioxide, at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. After the bottle is opened, this gas escapes, moving the partial pressure of carbon dioxide above the liquid to be much lower, resulting in degassing as the dissolved carbon dioxide comes out of solution.

Intake & Consent
A physician’s referral is required for mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This referral can be from (ND, LAc, DC, DO, or MD). Your physician will determine a treatment plan that meets your individual needs. Our staff is available to work with your physician to determine what treatment frequency and amount of time is optimal for your situation—usually an hour to ninety minutes per session.

Please print, complete, and mail (or scan and email) this  Intake Form to us prior to your first appointment. Here is our referral form . This will need to be filled out by your MD, ND, DC, DO, or LAc.

An initial consult with our Licensed Acupuncturist, Cameron Li, will allow you to discuss the possibility of referring you for HBOT .
What to Expect
We are excited to provide our community with mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). HBOT is a powerful tool that can allow life changing healing and greater functioning to a wide array of people with few side effects and very low risk.

Our hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber offers a  large, comfortable, bright space to relax in during treatment. Inside the chamber you will lie down or sit up, in your own clothing—cotton is preferable. You can enjoy a book, use your ipod, or phone, or a tablet or laptop—free wi-fi is available. Session length lasts from about one hour to ninety minutes. Treatment plans addressing chronic and neurological issues, such as, but not limited to rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme disease, or traumatic brain injury may require 30-40 sessions. Treatment plans for optimizing surgical outcomes or enhancing athletic performance may consist of 10-20 sessions.

As oxygen is delivered through the chamber, the atmospheric pressure inside the chamber is gradually increased to 1.3 ATA. You and a trained staff member remain in control of the process at all times.

Please be aware that your scheduled session of 1 hour or 90 minutes does not include the time required for compression and decompression of the chamber. Therefore please allow for an additional 15 minutes with each appointment. For example, if you have a 1-hour appointment scheduled for 8:00 am, it is likely that your treatment will conclude closer to 9:15 am. In addition, if you arrive late for an appointment, your session will be shortened to ensure that others can be treated as scheduled.

Payment is expected at the time of service.
